New Zealand

Marlborough
The largest wine producing region in New Zealand and predominantly planted to Sauvignon Blanc. Famous (now infamous!) for Cloudy Bay, who have acted as a very effective arrowhead to showcase to the world the qualities of the Marlborough style of Sauvignon. This special characteristic style comes courtesy of the climate that allows the grapes to remain on the vine throughout Autumn and ensure very slow ripening. Although Sauvignon dominates the area is widely planted to Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.
Nelson
Nelson, situated at the Northern tip of the South Island is an area characterised by small wineries. Different topographically and climatically to Marlborough, the area is establishing a reputation for top-flight Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling also have very distinctive stylistic differences to Nelson's better known neighbour, with a lemon lime citric freshness in the latter and a finely balanced greener style from the former.
