Campania
Whites from the Irpinian hills and the red Aglianico from Taurasi all hail from the Campanian region. 2000 years ago the outfall from Vesuvius hailed down on the whole area and produced a volcanic ash layer of considerable depth which is now responsible for providing some of the most volcanic influenced wines in the world.
The Irpinian hills lie to the east of Naples reaching heights of 400m, rising to 600m in and around Taurasi just a short distance further eastwards.
Fine and perfumed wine referred to as the Barolo of the south...with gentler tannins.
