Personal opinion - a quintessential wine, one having the fifth essence (the other four being earth, wind, fire and water) is one that has real appeal to me. This is a wine where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It is like taking the deep earth, transforming it into liquid, bottling it and then enjoying it in all its glory.
Made from the Cannonau grape (equals Grenache in Spain, but is usually nothing like this), this is truly pure wine - untreated vines, unoaked, unfined and unfiltered. First revealed in all its glory with a simple (hung for 28 days) piece of sirloin.
A mere 9000 bottles in the 2003 vintage.
