Argentina
Like Chile, the Spanish influences of the 16th century conquistadors led to the introduction of the vine for wine (vitis vinifera). Now a leading producer and with some renown for the distinct quality of its Malbec based reds and whites made from Torrontes. Wines from the southern most, cooler region of the country, Patagonia, are beginning to attract interest.
Chile
Phylloxera free vines throughout the country, where grapes were first introduced during the Spanish Conquests of the 1600's. More recently, Chile has experienced rapid growth in the planting and cultivating of grapes for wine making and now is the ninth largest producer of wines in the world.
