This could possibly be the best NV champagne available, combining a non vintage freshness with a richness associated with more mature vintage champagne. I sometimes think of it as a well aged Chablis Premier Cru with lots of class and, of course, bubbles. The opening sequence provides lift and freshness on the palate, followed by a delicate creamy richness and a delightfully long finish. Definitely worth paying that little bit more for this little beauty.
Like all the best champagnes, the Grand Reserve receives 5 years second fermentation in the bottle and is held back at least a further six months before release. To get the best out of this champagne, just hide it away for a few more years and appreciate the concentration and intensity that will amply reward your patience.
Received the Golden Grape award in the 2009 Guide Hachette from a cast of 35000 other wines, including 2000 champagnes!
