Abruzzo
Best known for red wines made from the Montepulciano grape, whose styles can vary from easy, light, low tannin to seriously stylish, concentrated and ageworthy wines. Whites are made principally from the Trebbiano grape and, apart from some exceptions, are not particularly memorable.
Marche
Lying along the Adriatic coast, the area is best known for producing white wines from the Verdicchio grape. Carefully selected Verdicchio is a delight - wonderfully fresh acidity, developing rich tropical and mineral flavours over time. A first class fish accompaniment.
Emerging reds from Rosso Conero and Piceno represent great value, and can deliver styles from early drinking to long lived.
Tuscany
Tuscany is best known for the Sangiovese dominated Chianti reds - from the straightforward fruity style to the finely honed wines of Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. Home, too, to the air dried, loft aged Vin Santo stlye; and to the Super Tuscan style, initiated in the 1970's, where Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Sangiovese. White wines are made, with Malvasia and Trebbiano most prominent.
